STORY OF THE FRAMTIDEN PRINT

The Framtiden print was born in 2016 from a cleaning rag belonging to my friend’s boat of the same name. He used it during his boat’s spring maintenance. The rag was stained with lead paint, oil and tar, and even had a few drops of paint on it.
My friend Bosse photographed the rag and posted it on Facebook after finishing his day’s work, as he hung it up to dry in the boat shed. The light hit the rag beautifully, turning the lead stains into a warm orange-brown hue. I immediately fell in love with the rag and asked Bosse if I could have it, which he gladly gave me for my final project at Helsinki Design School.
I photographed the rag and first printed it onto silk fabric. My final project at school resulted in the first Framtiden kimono — born out of love for the archipelago and the beauty around us.
Today, the Framtiden print is available in several color variations. The Framtiden collection includes the classic kimono, various dresses, the Myrskyluodon Maija skirt, and a silk scarf.

The original cleaning rag is on display in our store. In sunlight, the colors of the print come vividly to life. You can even still smell the scent of tar in the fabric.
